Choosing yourwedding nails

Your hands will feature in more photos than you might expect. Here's how to plan bridal nails that look beautiful on the day and in every picture.

Think about the photos from a wedding: the ring exchange, the bouquet, the first glass of champagne, a hand resting on a shoulder during the first dance. Your hands are everywhere. That’s why so many brides put real thought into their nails, and why a little planning goes a long way. This guide covers when to book, how to choose a shape and shade, and the small details that make bridal nails look perfect from the morning preparations to the last song.

Start planning early

The best bridal nails start a couple of months before the wedding. If your natural nails are short, weak or bitten, this gives you time to get them into great condition. A course of BIAB with regular infills can help natural nails grow longer and stronger without breaking, so you have a lovely base by the time the big day arrives.

If you’re planning extensions for extra length and shape, there’s no need to start early, but you will want a trial.

Book a trial

A trial appointment three to six weeks before the wedding is the best way to make sure you love your nails. Bring photos of your dress, your engagement ring, your colour scheme and any nail looks you’ve saved. Your technician can show you how different shapes and shades look against your skin tone, and you’ll see how the finish wears over a week or two.

A trial also takes the pressure off the final appointment. On the day itself, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

Choose a shape that suits your hands

Almond and oval shapes are bridal favourites because they make fingers look longer and more elegant, and they flatter almost every hand. Soft squoval is a great choice if you prefer shorter nails or want something practical for a busy day. Coffin and stiletto shapes make a bold statement and suit brides who love a modern look.

Think about length too. Very long nails can make tasks like fastening jewellery, holding a bouquet or handling a phone a little trickier on the day.

Shades that photograph beautifully

Bridal nails tend to look best when they complement rather than compete with your dress and ring. Some of the most loved looks include:

  • Sheer nudes and milky pinks: soft, timeless and flattering on every skin tone
  • Micro French tips: a fine white or ivory edge that looks clean and elegant
  • Glazed or pearl chrome: a subtle glow that catches the light in photos
  • A delicate accent nail: a little glitter or a hand-painted detail on your ring finger
  • Soft ombré: a gentle fade from nude to white or blush

If your wedding has a strong colour scheme, a single accent nail in that shade can tie everything together without overpowering your look. Your technician can also add nail art such as fine lines, tiny flowers or pearls.

When to book your wedding nails

Book your final bridal manicure two to three days before the wedding. That gives you time to fix any small problems, and your nails will still look completely fresh. Avoid booking the morning of the wedding unless the salon can guarantee the time, as delays on the day can add stress you don’t need.

Gel and BIAB are the most reliable choices for brides because they’re dry the moment you leave the salon and very resistant to chips.

Don’t forget your toes

If you’re wearing open-toe shoes, or heading straight off on honeymoon, book a gel pedicure at the same time. Gel on toes often lasts four weeks or more, so it will see you through the honeymoon too. Many brides choose a shade that matches or complements their manicure.

Treat your bridal party

A group appointment for your bridesmaids, mothers and close friends can be a lovely, relaxed part of the build-up to the wedding. Coordinated nails also look beautiful in group photos. Send us a WhatsApp message with the names, treatments and preferred dates and we’ll plan the timings for your group.

Aftercare before the big day

In the days between your appointment and the wedding:

  • Apply cuticle oil morning and night, so your hands look soft and polished in close-up photos
  • Wear gloves for cleaning and washing up
  • Avoid opening boxes, cards and decorations with your nails
  • Keep a little hand cream in your bag for the day itself
